the mystery of the grades is easy. In the list above, the
larger particle sized grades begin on the left and each
successive grade is smaller. Particles are sized using U.S.
Standard Sieves/Screens.
Examples:
+8
Grade: The majority of particles are retained on a #8
sieve.
-40
Grade: The majority of particles pass through a #40
sieve.
1420
Grade: The majority of particles pass through a #14
screen and are retained on a #20 screen.
